Here’s how to write advertising and create or design marketing the easy way.

It is very easy to get the basics wrong when writing or creating marketing. But the good news is, that it is very easy to write advertisements or write marketing.

It’s easy to get the marketing basics right, as long as you know what the basics are to create good advertisements and marketing strategies.

Given that you are starting with some particular product or service that you would like to sell, ask…

1.       What are the benefits to the consumer (your target market) of your product or service?

2.       Who will be prepared to pay for the benefits of your product or service?

3.       Where are they?

4.       How can I communicate most effectively with them?

Spend plenty of time on this exercise because the more clarity you have around these details the more likely your marketing will succeed.

The next thing to do is tell your target market four basic things…

1.       Tell them who you are.

2.       Tell them what you’ve got.

3.       Tell them what it will do for them.

4.       Tell them what to do next.

The most important is number three. Tell them what it will do for them when you design your advertisement  or marketing strategy. That is a good starting point to design a headline. Tell people what your product will do for them in the end , that is all they want to know. Ultimately they don’t really care, who you are or what you have got, they most want to know what it will do for them. And if that is something they want, then what do they have to do is to get it.

So having decided upon your target market and the benefits you will be providing, you are now ready to make an advertisement or design your marketing to reach them.

Your advertisement needs only for basic principles:

  1. A headline to grab their attention- usually benefit laden.
  2. Some discussion to engage their interest.
  3. Create a desire for your product.
  4. A call to action- tell them what to do next.

That’s it, marketing made minimal. These are the very basic principles that you need, which will work to improve any advertisement. These principles should underlie any type of marketing you do, of any product, for any New Zealand audience.

So decide on your target market, aim your product directly at them and ask for a response.  The next thing to do is learn how to turn all those leads into customers and make more sales by improving your selling skills.
